Gloria Jean
Hoppe
July 11, 1941 – August 16, 2019
Gloria Jean (Carty) Hoppe, resident of Sturgeon Lake, MN passed peacefully on Friday, August 16 th , 2019 in Mercy Hospital at the age of 78. She was born in White Bear Lake, MN on July 11 th , 1941 to Albert and Helen (Abernathy) Johnson.
Gloria graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1959. She was a phenomenal softball player in her younger years. She was married to Howard Carty for many years: together raising six children of their own, and fostering many, many more, while living in St. Paul, MN. They retired and moved to Sturgeon Lake. Howard passed away in 2002. Gloria worked for Grand Casino Hinckley for 16 years, which is where she met Scott Hoppe. Their friendship became a relationship, and then became a marriage in their backyard on July 12 th , 2011. Together, they enjoyed watching horror movies, spending time at home, and bird watching from their deck; especially hummingbirds. Gloria was the most kind woman, always willing to do things for others. Despite her nearly two year battle with cancer, she never stopped being friendly, honest, and a good mother.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Scott; children, Geno (Mary) Carty, Angela Carlton, Pamela (Don) Gray, Geraldine Carty, Holly (Bryan) Brown, and Jim (Anita) Carty, Sr.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Bob) Kennard, and Evelyn (Bill) Haidt; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and her special chocolate lab, Dolly.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen; sister, Vonnie (John) Bryant; and brothers, Chuck and Ron Johnson.
A Visitation in memory of Gloria will be held on Thursday, August 22 nd , 2019 at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home in Moose Lake at 10 am. Memorial Service will be held at 11 am with Deacon Wendy Hjelmberg officiating.
