Obituary

Grace Viola Schjeldahl, 90, of Sturgeon Lake, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She was born November 23, 1924 in Moose Lake to Albert and Julia Anderson. Grace graduated from high school without having missed a single day. She went on to the Minneapolis School of Business as well as modeling school. Grace was united in marriage to Ralph Schjeldahl on July 3, 1949 in Mahtowa. She worked at the Moose Lake State Hospital for a number of years before retiring.

Grace (and Ralph) enjoyed traveling, having been to Hong Kong, Scandinavia, on train trips across the US and many trips to California to visit with family. They also traveled with neighbors and friends Terry and Dianne to Alaska, Europe, Western US, Churchill and Manitoba to see polar bears plus many other locations.

Grace was a great fan of wildlife. In 1996 Grace learned that Osprey would likely come if a nesting platform was erected. So Grace and Ralph with the help of Terry erected a nesting platform on their farm. Shortly thereafter the ospreys came and have nested there for at least 16 years. In 2006 Grace decided that it would be great to share this experience with others so it was decided to install a camera and establish a web site, www.osprey-webcam.com. On the website, visitors can view close-up live video of nest activity. From this website Grace received e-mails from viewers around the US and Europe. More recently Grace was instrumental in having another osprey platform erected on her nephew, Wally's property and was also soon inhabited with a pair of osprey.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; siblings, Vern, Jennie, Florence, Emil, Floyd and Albert.

Grace is survived by her brother-in-law, Orrin "Bud" (Phyllis) Schjeldahl of Redlands, CA; sister-in-law, Lillian Anderson of Sturgeon Lake; nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends; very special friends, Terry and Dianne Peterson and her beloved dog, Sissy.
