Gregory “GDO” Olson, 69, Sturgeon Lake, died Friday, September 11, 2026 following injuries sustained in accident. He born on June 10, 1957 in Duluth to Thomas and Joyce Olson. Greg lived in the Lakeside area in Duluth and moved with his family to Virginia where he attended Roseville High School graduating in 1975. He later attended UMD where he attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Greg later attained his Master’s Degree at the University of MN Twin Cities. On September 27, 1984, Greg married Cindy Johnson in Cambridge. He worked for the Isanti Police Department and then worked at the Inver Grove Police Department where he retired as a Sergeant after 30 years in law enforcement. In 2012, Greg moved to Sand Lake where he loved to golf, fish, and ride his ATV. Greg and Cindy also love wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his son, Russell in 2004; and his parents: Tom and Joyce Olson.

Greg will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Cindy; brother: Doug Olson; brothers-in-law: Rob Johnson and Rick (Marc) Johnson; sister-in-law: Melissa (Ryan) Grumdahl; nephews and nieces: Michael (Kacy) Sipper; Richard (Amanda) Johnson; Zak Johnson, and Stephanie Johnson; and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 from 1-4 PM at Moose Lake Golf Club, 35311 Parkview Drive, Sturgeon Lake, MN 55783.
