Henry Michael Jurek, 89, Barnum, died peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024 in Viewcrest Health Center, Duluth. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Kettle River to Stanley and Emma (Sturgeleski) Jurek. Henry grew up in Split Rock Twp and attended school at Washington School in Split Rock Twp. and later Moose Lake High School. He logged with his dad and at the age of 17 started a career at Wood Conversion in Cloquet from 1953 until retiring in 1992. Henry married Josephine Wojtysiak in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Split Rock Twp. on October 21, 1961. They lived in Barnum where they dairy farmed and later raised beef cattle. Hard work was not only Henry's life, but it was his hobby. He still found time to enjoy being a member of the Star Club where he worked many weekends for weddings and dances.
Henry was preceded in death by his daughter: Barbara Misiewicz; three brothers: George Jurek, Gerald Jurek, and Sylvester Jurek; his parents: Stanley and Emma Jurek; and his very special dog, Buddy.
Henry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years: Josephine; two sons: Daniel (Amber) Jurek and David (Sarah) Jurek; five grandchildren: Kendra, Janaya, Daniel, Walter, and Krystyne; and great grandchildren; three sisters: Elsie Field; Betty (Denny) Herzog; and Irene (Roger) Herzog; brother: Michael (Sue) Jurek; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Henry.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Mass in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake on Friday, October 11, 2024. Lunch will follow Mass. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake at 2 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024.
