Iola "Ole" Roberta Mraz, 83, of Barnum, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She was born July 3, 1934 in Barnum to Oscar and Sara (Eikenbery) Peterson. Iola attended Central School before attending Barnum School. Iola was united in marriage to Stanley Mraz on February 6, 1952 in Moose Lake. She worked at the Match Mill in Cloquet while Stan was in the Army. She also mowed lawn at Riverside Cemetery in Barnum, cleaned the Barnum Liquor Store, drove van for Barnum School and was a custodian at both Barnum High School and Barnum Elementary School. Iola loved to play the piano, guitar and harmonica. She enjoyed baking pies and cookies and loved to eat out (especially sweets). She was an avid walker and rollerbladed into her 70's. She loved watching the wildlife and hunting for 4-leaf clovers. Ole especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Iola is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; brothers, Burton, Kenneth and Pete Peterson; sisters, Lillian Paulson and Arlene Peterson; son-in-law, George Crotteau and her beloved dog, Jack.
Iola is survived by her committed significant other, Doug Nelson; 5 daughters, Linda (Larry) Schlafer, Sandra Crotteau, Diane (Gary) Thieling, Debra (Tony) Fisher and Wendy (Dan Neff) Harding; son, Stanley "Stosch" (Lina) Mraz; grandchildren, Layla (Jason) Hirschfelt, Melanie (Matt) Fett, Cody Thieling, Casey Thieling, Emily (Brent) Tracy, Melissa (Lee) Harper, AJ (Amber) Fisher, Kyle (Catrina) Fisher, Cassie (Karl) Wimmer, Joshua Harding, Nick (Jessyka Peterson) Harding, Natasha Mraz, Matthew Mraz and Katrina Mraz; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Alyce (Ed) Henninger and Laura Wekseth; sister-in-law, Connie Peterson; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 16 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service in Barnum Community United Methodist Church, Barnum. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
