Irene Anna Davis, 88, of Moose Lake, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in Cloquet Memorial Hospital. She was born August 16, 1921 in Moose Lake to Claude and Rose (Weske) Gould. Irene graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1940. Irene was united in marriage to Elmer John Davis on June 16, 1946 in Superior, WI. Irene worked as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone and Northwestern Bell in Rhinelander and Superior, WI as well as Moose Lake for a total of 17 years. She then worked as a cook for Mercy Hospital for a short time before becoming employed by the Moose Lake State Hospital as manager of the Federal Government Culinary Program where she worked for 5 years before being transferred to the State Hospital Culinary Department where she worked for 10 years, retiring in 1979. Irene was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake and a life member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary #2962 of Carlton. She enjoyed needlework, word puzzles, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, reading and watching the Twins.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; 1 great grandson, Joseph Wright.

Irene is survived by 3 daughters, Susan (Roger) Gustafson of Mahtowa, Peggy (Clifford) Thorson of Woodbury and Linda (Tony) Faust of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Rachel (Marty) Nelson, Scott (Amanda) Gustafson, Amber (Patrick) Bisek, Katie (Kenneth) Martinson, Eric (Dawn) Thorson, Lisa (Joseph) Funk and Tammy (Kyle) Olsen; great grandchildren, Zachary Wright, Madeline, Gracie and Alex Nelson, Antonio and Dominic Martinson, Noah and Brayden Davis Bisek, Evan and Brooks Gustafson and Vincent Thorson; 1 brother, Eugene (Barbara) Gould of Renton, WA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
