Irene E. Thomsen Mahlman, formerly of Barnum and Moose Lake, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. She was born July 26, 1918 in Tyler to Albert and Caroline Wendorff. Irene lived in McGrath before moving to Barnum in 1945. She worked at Northwoods Restaurant. Irene moved to Moose Lake in 1980. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Barnum, American Legion Auxiliary Post #379 of Moose Lake and AAL-Barnum Branch. Irene enjoyed gardening, needle work and was very active in her church.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Oscar and Iven Thomsen; 1 daughter, Charlene Dianosky; 4 sisters, Geneva Wendorff, Lelah Holmes, Alberta Krebs and Edith Olson; 1 brother, Russell Wendorff, Sr..
Irene is survived by 4 children, Ray (Eleanor) Thomsen of Cloquet, Shirley (Walt) Westerberg of Barnum, David (Pam) Thomsen of Carlton and Gerald Thomsen of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Dawn (Bob) Friskey, Mickael (Karen) Folsted, Eryn (Donald) Szymczak, Mandie (Chris) Resberg, Seth (Abby) Thomsen, Michael Thomsen, David Eldred, Adam Eldred, Matthew Thomsen, Shannon Thomsen, Troy (Loida) Thomsen, Peter (Jody) Thomsen and Kristie (Rodney) McCuskey; many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, from 5 to 7 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and will continue Monday, May 7 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Barnum. Interment will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Barnum.
