Obituary

Jalmer "Jolly" Ollie Leppioja, 88, of Kettle River, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at his home. He was born April 14, 1921 in Kalevala Township to Ollie and Sanna (Karjalahti) Leppioja. Jolly was united in marriage to Ellen Kivi on July 29, 1961 in Kettle River. Jolly farmed the family dairy farm his entire life. He took great pride in being called a "farmer". In 2007, Jolly's dairy farm was recognized as a "Century Farm". He was also employed with the State Highway Department for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Jolly was a Kalevala Township board member for many years. Jolly enjoyed fishing and spending time with family. Jolly was known for never saying a bad thing about anyone.

Jolly is survived by his loving wife, Ellen of Moose Lake; step-son, David (Ronnie) Kankaala of Cambridge; grandchildren, Steve, John, Eric and Justin Kankaala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jolly is preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Robert Kankaala; 1 brother, John; 4 sister, Martha, Olga "Billie", Pear and Hilma "Hilkes"; nephew, Tom Willman.
