James "Stink" David Couture, Jr., 27, Moose Lake, died Saturday, February 14, 2026.  He was born on June 12, 1998 in Duluth to James Couture, Sr. and Amanda Juhl Nelson.  He grew up in the Barnum/Moose Lake areas and attended Barnum High School graduating in 2016.  After high school, James attained his nursing assistant license and worked at New Perspectives in Barnum, Sandstone Health Care Center, and most recently Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.  He had a natural gift to care for the elderly and always made sure they were very well taken care of while creating deep friendships.  James loved horses and was extremely proud of his rescue horse Frida whom he nurtured back to health.  He had a passion for cars and trucks that started with Pontiacs and grew into Cadillacs.  Although his dreams of traveling will never come to fruition, his memory will travel through many hearts as people remember his heart of gold and gentle soul that touched many.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Paul Juhl and Joe Couture, Sr.; grandmother: Carol Carlson; and uncle: Loren Juhl.

James will be lovingly remembered by his mom: Amanda (Ben) Nelson; Dad: James (Tammy) Couture, Sr.; sister: Sam (Josh) Andersen; brother: Korbin Couture; sister: Gabby (Blake) Turner; step-brothers: Travis Aho and Alex Aho; step-sister: Summer Aho; special niece: Amelia Andersen; grandmother: Loretta Juhl; grandparents: Phil & Cande Nelson; special friends: Briann and Hannah; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; his horse: Frida; and his dog: Rose.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Service on Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.  Lunch will follow the services in the social hall at the funeral home.
