James Lawrence Kanis, 73, Circle Pines, formerly of Sturgeon Lake, died January 8, 2020.  He was born in Moose Lake on December 21, 1946 to Anthony and Margaret Kanis.  Jim grew up on a farm outside of Sturgeon Lake and attended school in Moose Lake, graduating in 1965.  He worked at Wood Conversion in Cloquet for a short time.  In 1971, Jim moved to New Brighton and later Circle Pines where he lived for over 20 years.  Jim worked for 30 years plus at Johnson Screen Corp.  He was a member of Knights of Columbus.  Jim loved to play the accordion and dance to polka music.  He truly enjoyed attending dances at different venues throughout the Twin Cities and treasured the friendships he made.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Anthony and Margaret Kanis, and a sister: Janet Kanis.

Jim will be remembered by his two siblings: Edwin (Nancy) Kanis and Virginia (Larry) Nemec; nephews: Brian (Sandra) Kanis; Michael Kanis; and niece: Kelly Johnson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake.  Lunch will follow the Mass in the church social hall.  Following lunch, inurnment will be in St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery, Sturgeon Lake.
