James F. Ketchum
James F. Ketchum, 85, Sturgeon Lake, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born on February 19, 1924 in Waseca to Charles and Alva Ketchum. They lived in St. Paul and later moved to a farm in Kerrick where Jim grew up and attended school in Duquette and Bruno. Jim was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After his Honorable Discharge, Jim lived in Kerrick. On June 15, 1947, Jim married Verna "Pete" Chaffee in Hinckley. Jim worked for nearly 40 years at Wood Conversion / Conwed in Cloquet. He liked to fish, hunt, and golf during his younger years. After his retirement, Jim moved to Sturgeon Lake. His day often began with a run into town for morning coffee with friends and his day would often end at a Moose Lake-Willow River High School sports game where Jim would always support the Rebels as an avid fan.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Verna "Pete" in 1986; an infant son; and four brothers:
Charles, Kenny, Paul, and Ray.
He will be lovingly remembered by his three sons: James (Shanna) of Kettle River; Randy of Sturgeon Lake; and Robert (Lynn) of Kerrick; five grandchildren: Tracy (Sam) Gebhart; Korrin Mortensen, Justin Ketchum, Stacy Ketchum, and Rudy Ketchum; two great grandchildren: Jack & Joseph Gebhart; two brothers: Donald (Jean) Ketchum of Carlton and Richard (Bonnie) Ketchum of Mora; one sister: Rosie McKeller of Brook Park; close personal friends: Steve & Sheri Pearce of Cincinnati, OH and Jim Murphy of Kerrick; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
A Private Inurnment service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Kerrick Twp. with Pastor Nathan Anderson officiating and Military Honors accorded by the Moose Lake Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the Mercy Hospital E/R Staff and the Mercy Ambulance Staff for their wonderful care and concern which they gave Jim and his family.
