Janice "Babe" Sylvester, 80, Moose Lake, died peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023 in Essentia Health – Moose Lake. She was born on February 7, 1943 in Sandstone to George and Maxine Mudgett. Janice grew up in Groningen and attended school in Sandstone. On November 26, 1960, Janice married Harley Sylvester in Moose Lake. They lived most of their lives in the Willow River and Sturgeon Lake area until moving to Moose Lake in 2019. Janice worked at Harts Old Time Coffee House, Catholic Charities/Meals on Wheels at the Kettle River Township Hall, and at Hinckley Grand Casino. She always said her favorite job was being a Mom and Grandma! She loved to sew, make crafts, and take care of the holiday decorations at Hillside Manor East. Janice was known for being the seamstress and helped many with fixing clothing through the years. She also loved to make wedding cakes for her family. Janice will forever be remembered for her generous nature and was also willing to help those in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley in 2020; parents: George and Maxine (Briggle) Mudgett; two brothers: Ray and Ronnie; two sisters: Mona and Judy; and a great grandson: Brantley.
Janice will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Gary (Kris) Sylvester; Brian (Kaireen) Sylvester; Julie (Rob) Rose; and Diane (Steve) Lingle; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren with her 13th great grandchild, Brody, expected in 2024; brother: Danny Mudgett; brother-in-law: Steve Thomson; brother-in-law: Tracy (Ruth) Sylvester; sister-in-law: Kala Sylvester; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Service on Saturday, December 30, 2023 in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Private family inurnment will be held in the spring in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Twp.
