Jennie C. Mickalson
Jennie C. Mickalson entered into rest at Mercy Health Care Center on Sunday April 12, 2009 at the age of 96. Jennie was born October 2, 1912 to Albert and Julia Anderson in Windemere Township. She attended Windemere "C" school and finished high school in three years graduating in 1930 from Moose Lake High School. Jennie went on to Hairdressing school and later helped form the first Hairdressers Union.
On May 14, 1937, Jennie married Erling Mickalson, who was from Sortland Norway. They made Crookston, MN their first home and then later moved to Brady, Texas during World War II where Erling was an instructing pilot for the U.S. Air Force. In the late 40's, they owned an airport in Fort Atkinson, WI. Later Jennie and Erling moved to Chicago, IL where Jennie worked at Cracker Jack for 13 years. In 1965, they built their retirement home in Sunset Bay on Sturgeon Lake. Jennie entered Mercy Health Care Center on September 30, 2002.
Jennie was a gifted seamstress and made many beautiful quilts including the quilt for the Moose Lake Centennial. Jennie became the first licensed female student pilot in our region. She loved to spend time with nieces and nephews (great nieces and nephews) doing activities such as fishing, agate picking, boating, swimming, puzzles and gymnastics. Jennie also had a passion for violets and dogs.
Jennie is preceded in death by her husband Erling, her parents Albert and Julia Anderson, four bothers, Vern, Emil, Floyd and Al Anderson and one sister Florence DeSender. She is survived by one sister, Grace (Ralph) Schjeldahl and one sister-in-law, Lillian (Vern) Anderson and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews along with her loving dog Rosie.
In the spirit of Jennie's gratitude, a special thank you is extended to the staff at Mercy Health Care Center Moose Lake, MN.
Visitation was from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in Hamlin- Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Pastor Nathan Anderson was officiate. Casket Bearers were Jennie's Nephews: Silver Anderson, Daniel Anderson, Wallace Anderson, Spencer Anderson, Link Anderson, and Ace Anderson. Burial followed immediately in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Twp.
