Jim Booker
Jim Booker, 76, Sturgeon Lake, died Tuesday, June 8, 2011 in Essentia – St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born on June 3, 1935 in Duluth to George, Sr. and Ruth Booker. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. On October 21, 1961, Jim married Elaine Drahosh in Faith Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Lake. He worked as a seasonal worker in Alaska for a few years. In 1967, Jim and Elaine purchased a farm in Sturgeon Lake Twp. In 1974, Jim started Jim Booker Construction which he continued to operate. Jim loved gardening, classic cars, ice fishing, and camping with his grandkids. He also bowled for several years. Jim was a member of the Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361.
He was preceded in death by his parents: George, Sr. and Ruth Booker; two sisters: Delores and Jackie; and a brother: Willard.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years: Elaine; four children: Noreen (Mike) Terry of Cottage Grove; Colleen (Bruce) Smith of Barnum; Randy Booker of Oakdale; and Roxanne Adamczak of Cloquet; 6 Grandchildren: Megan Terry, Chris Smith, Alex Smith, Jessica Smith, Ryan Adamczak, and Tony Adamczak; step-mother: Eva Booker of Moose Lake; mother-in-law: Marion Drahosh; and his 13 siblings: Betty Penkofski; George Booker, Jr.; Dorothy (Lyle) Howard; John (Sandy) Booker; Ruth (Tony) Pruissen; Robert (Merc) Booker; Pat (Willis) Nelson; Joyce (Earl) Warpula; Barb (Bob) Calhoun; Linda (Larry) Schleret; Ginger (Leroy) Price; Kenny (Pat) Booker; and Vickie (Ron) Oetterer; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation was held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2011 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continued from 9 AM until the 10 AM service on Monday, June 13, 2011 in Faith Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Lake. Pastor Paul Reiff was the officiate. Music was provided by Bev Peterson and Diane Jacobson. Casket Bearers were: Dave Drahosh, Mike Davis, Todd Booker, Danny Anderson, Mike Mikrot, and Larry Weidendorf. Jim's Grandchildren were the Honorary Bearers. Military Honors were performed by the Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361. Burial was held in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Birch Creek Twp.
