Jim Sloper

Jim Sloper, 77, Willow River, died peacefully on Friday, November 30, 2012 in his home. He was born on October 1, 1935 in Nokesville, Virginia to Thomas and Virginia Sloper. Jim grew up and attended school in the state of Virginia and started his career of painting at the age of 16. He was also a fireman for 10 years with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department in Virginia. In 1963, Jim moved to Minnesota and married Sue Classen on July 6, 1963 in St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul, White Bear Lake, and Stacy before moving to Willow River in 1985. Jim was a member of the Willow River City Council for 11 years. He also did a lot of meat cutting through the years. Jim loved fishing, hunting, and playing cribbage at the Corral Bar or with family and friends at home. He enjoyed watching Old Westerns on the Western Channel.

Jim will be remembered by his wife of 49 years, Sue; 3 children: Sharon Sloper of Chisago City; Mark Sloper of Stacy; and Dan (Amy) Sloper of Maplewood; 2 children from a previous marriage: Cheryl (Frank) Ringel of Ashburn, VA and Mark McNulty of Maryland; 4 Grandchildren: Stephanie, Sara, Frankie, and Ryan; 3 Great Grandchildren; brother: Warren (Laura) Sloper of AZ; 3 sisters: Betty Wilfong; Barbara Wilfong; and Doris Franklin all of the State of Virginia; Children of the Heart: David and Angela Kliniski of Willow River; Grandchildren of the Heart: Ashley and Austin Kliniski of Willow River; and many special friends whom of have great memories of "Sloper".

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 14, 2012 in the First United Presbyterian Church of Willow River and continue from 10 – 11 AM Memorial Service on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in the First United Presbyterian Church, Willow River.
