Johanna (Hannel) Krieg Berg-Williams, a faithful and devout child of God, was called home to Heaven at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Sturgeon Lake, MN on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Johanna, the daughter of Karl and Johanna Krieg, was born in Anweiler, Germany on May 22, 1936. She grew up during World War II and had many stories to share about her experiences. In 1956, she married Donald Berg, Sr., a member of the United States Army who was stationed in Germany at that time. Their two eldest sons were born in Germany before moving to the United States a few years later. They went on to have five more children and resided in St. Paul, MN until Don's death in January of 1994. Johanna proudly received her American citizenship during that time in 1977.
The Lord blessed her once again when she met Richard Williams in the summer of 1994. This is one of her most favorite stories to tell as she would say that "God had it all planned". In August of 1997, they were married and moved to Sturgeon Lake, MN. They enjoyed travelling, boating, and their "up north" lifestyle until Richard's death in January of 2018.
Johanna loved being a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and Oma. She was continually selfless and overflowing with love and pride for her family until her final breath. She cherished every moment and held each memory close to her heart. She loved her German heritage, cooking, dancing, singing, and sharing her smile with everyone she met. She loved learning and even taught German to the grade school children at Emmanual Lutheran School for a short period of time.
Johanna was preceded in death by her parents: Karl and Johanna; husbands: Donald and Richard; two brothers; three sisters; and her daughter-in-law: Norma. Remaining to cherish Johanna's memory are her seven children: William, Donald, Jr., Robert (Linda), Richard (Kristen), Steven (Raquel), Douglas (Karen), and Jennifer (James); thirteen grandchildren and their spouses; sixteen great-grandchildren; brother: Horst (Connie), sister: Gerlinde; three stepchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Johanna was a longtime member of Crown of Life Lutheran Church and most recently, Christ Lutheran Church of North St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 2475 – 17th Avenue East, North St. Paul. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service with a luncheon to follow.
Private family interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Johanna's memory may be directed to the Dementia Society:
