John William Carl, 71, of Barnum, passed away unexpectedly, March 24, 2013 at his winter home in Mesa, AZ. He was born October 27, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Jack and Vera (Swanson) Carl. John attended Barnum High School until leaving to help his family. John delivered milk for 2 years for Anderson Dairy. John was united in marriage to Gertrude "Gertie" Michalski on June 20, 1964 in Duluth. John worked for Conwed for approximately 20 years. He also worked for the Moose Lake Municipal Liquor Store for 9 years as a bartender and also sold pull tabs for MS for 2 years. John worked for the City of Barnum for 21 years until retiring in 2004. John was also very active with the Dry Riders Motorcycle Club and started the Moose Lake Chapter in 1977. He was active with the Relay for Life Walk Committee from 2004-2010. John enjoyed coffee at Art's Café with his coffee buddies and also picking on the waitresses. John enjoyed being a snowbird in Mesa, AZ where he played cards, cribbage and pool. John also enjoyed visiting with the many friends he made over the 9 years while living there.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude "Gertie" Carl; parents, Jack Carl and Vera Carl Selen; 3 children, Mark, Donna and Stephan Carl.
John will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Janet (Greg) Larson of Barnum; 2 granddaughters, Nikki Larson and Jade Larson both of Barnum; sisters, Pat Carl of Cloquet and Wendy (Todd) Juusola of Barnum; step-brother, Curtis (Gerrie) Selen; step-sister, Audrey (John Ciecielski) Gover; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, March 29, from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and will continue Saturday, March 30, from 10 AM until the 11 AM service in Elim Lutheran Church, 2077 Co Rd 6, Barnum. Interment will be in Sandy Lake Cemetery, Blackhoof Township. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
