John George Gebhart, 96, of Moose Lake, died, Saturday, June 26, 2010 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born August 18, 1913 in Coal Springs, SD to Joseph and Mary (Lieske) Gebhart. John went to Hilltop School in Coal Springs before going on to Brookings School of Agriculture. John was an Army Veteran of WWII. John was united in marriage to Lois D. Reeve on June 9, 1951 in Irish Creek, SD. He was a lifelong cattle rancher. John was a private pilot until he was 87 years old. He spent 6 years flying and exploring in Alaska. He also enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Kettle Squares. John was a long time volunteer for meals on wheels and a member of the "Arts Café Breakfast Crew".
John is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Carl, Robert, Arthur and Arnold; sister, Margaret Evans.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lois Gebhart of Florence, CO; 3 sons, Alan (Carol) Gebhart of Florence, CO, Matt (Cathy) Gebhart of Duquette, MN and Sam (Tracy) Gebhart of Kettle River, MN; 5 daughters, Mary (John) Bennett of Denver, CO, Jane (Buck) Chess of Florence, CO, Susan (Grant) Schemmel of Penrose, CO, Betty (John) Zebrasky of Bruno, MN and Judy (Jason) Barritt of Canberra, Australia; grandchildren, Matt, Jessica, Rachel, Andrew, Amanda, Adena, Katri, Ben, Eryn, Callista, Larissa, Galen, Elise, Joe, Jack and John Bennett; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Julia Wirth of Athol, Idaho; good friend, Deb Theiling; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 10 AM until the 11 AM service in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bruno. Graveside Services were Thursday, July 1 at 3PM in Gallaway Cemetery, Meadow, SD.
