John Leo
Sack
October 21, 1933 – February 12, 2025
John Leo Sack, of Willow River passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Essentia Hospital in Moose Lake. John was born to Joseph and Susan (Steindl) Sack on October 21, 1933, in Sisseton, SD.
John's family were share crop farmers, relocating to Chokio and Flensburg. When he was 13 years old, they relocated to St. Paul, MN where he attended St. Bernard's School for three years. John also worked for the family business, Tony's Night Club.
John served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956. In 1965, John married Carol Kliniski in St. Paul. They had one son, John, and two daughters, Shelley and Jeannie.
Before they moved from St. Paul, he worked for Molin Concrete in Lino Lakes. John followed his father's passion and bought a dairy farm in Denham, MN in 1969. He also worked at Conwed in Cloquet during that time. In 1975, they bought the Bungalow Bar in Bruno, MN, until 1981. Many friends were made during that adventure.
They sold the bar in 1981 and moved to Willow River. John worked miscellaneous jobs before moving to Troup, Texas to be a brick laborer as there was no work in the area.
After he moved back from Texas, he went back to work at Molin Concrete but spent his weekends working at the Squirrel Cage as a dishwasher, janitor, and any other odd jobs that Shelley and Carol needed help with.
After retiring from Molin Concrete in 1995, he moved full-time to Willow River and spent his afternoons socializing at the Squirrel Cage. John loved visiting with his happy hour friends. Through the years, he lost many, and new ones would come.
Preceded in death by parents, former wife, Carol (Kliniski) Sack, sisters Margaret Sack, Dottie Kuehn, Ann Legonsky, Carol Fosse, and brother Joseph Sack.
John is survived by his children John Sack, Shelley (Art) Underhill, and Jeannie Sack. Grandchildren Derek (Vanessa) Sack and Shayna Sack Simonson. Great-Grandchildren DJ and Carson Sack and Ryver Sack Simonson.
