John M. Young, Sr., 79, of Moose Lake, formerly of Automba Township, died Monday, October 24, 2011 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. He was born August 29, 1932 in Johnston City, IL to Ira and Mary (Pry) Young. John is a veteran of the United States Navy. John was united in marriage to Yvonne "Bonnie" Discamp on February 22, 1956 in Johnston City, IL. John and Bonnie moved to Automba Township where they farmed from 1963 until 2000 when they sold the farm. John also worked for the Carlton County Highway Department for 30 years until retiring on November 7, 1996. John enjoyed watching his kids drag race and especially enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and tractors with his grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Bernard; 1 sister, Patricia.

John is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne "Bonnie" Young of Moose Lake; 5 children, John (Robin) Young of Moose Lake, Linda (Bob) Utech of Kettle River, Jerry Young of Automba, Jodie (Kelly) Young of Coon Rapids and Sandy (Ritchie) Sandberg of Moose Lake; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild soon to be expected; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
