Joseph Brennan Olson did not come into this world with an instruction manual, and he probably wouldn't have followed it anyway. He was determined to do things his own way, with a little adventure, a little mischief, and usually his brothers somewhere nearby. He was always finding a way to turn an ordinary moment into something fun. He loved being with his brothers, sharing in their adventures, and giving his sister plenty of opportunities to laugh along with him. He had a little bit of a badass in him, and he wasn't afraid to show the world what he was made of. The outdoors was a big part of Joseph's life. He loved hunting, fishing, being in the woods, and spending time on the lake with his Grandpa. He loved hockey and the competition, camaraderie, and grit that came with it. But more than anything, Joseph loved the people in his life. He loved his family, his friends, and the people who held a special place in his heart, giving them a kind of love that was uniquely his. Joseph was the kind of person who showed up for the people he cared about. Whether someone needed a hand, a little extra help, or simply someone to be there, Joseph could be counted on. He had a toughness and determination about him, but beneath that was an incredibly big heart. He cared deeply about his people and had a way of making them feel loved, often without ever needing to say it. He also had a gift for making people laugh. His giggle was contagious, his smile could light up a room, and his presence brought an energy that was uniquely Joseph. He was goofy, stubborn, adventurous, hardworking, and unapologetically himself. He made memories without trying to, simply by being Joseph, and those who knew him will carry those memories with them forever. Joseph's life ended by suicide on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. While his family will always carry the heartbreak of losing him this way, they choose to remember Joseph for the life he lived and the person he was. His death does not erase his laughter, his smile, his stubbornness, his kindness, or the countless memories he left behind. We are so beyond blessed to have experienced Joseph. Blessed to have grown up alongside him, laughed with him, argued with him, adventured with him, and loved him. Blessed that, for 19 years, this world got to have him in it. Joseph is survived by his father, Andrew David Olson; his mother, Erin Rebecca Olson; his sister, Madeleine Mae Olson; his brothers, Adam Lawrence Olson (Rachel Werner) and Jacob Andrew Olson; his best bud, Michael Larson; and Mackenzie Hoffmann, who shared many special moments and memories with Joseph. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, friends and those blessed to have known him. Joseph was one of a kind. He lived loudly, loved fiercely, and left a mark on the people around him. We will carry him with us wherever we go; in the woods, on the water, at the rink, around the campfire, and in all the little moments that remind us of him. We love you, Joseph. We always will.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to heal and remember Joseph will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 4-7 pm at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. A Memorial Service to celebrate Joseph’s life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 4 pm at Moose Lake Covenant Church.
