Joyce Lorraine Schaumburg, 89 of Askov peacefully passed the evening of May 19, 2021 at home surrounded by singing family. The name Joyce means "Joyous": Joyce was all that and more being kind and accepting to everyone she met. Joyce was born to Clarence Feely and Clara Kropp Feely on Oct. 27, 1931 in St. Paul MN. Joyce was the second born of 4 children and raised in North St. Paul, MN.  Growing up she worked in a massive rose garden created and expanded yearly by her parents on their property.  Joyce retrieved cow pies by wagon in the fields at Otts Dairy next door for rose fertilizer and their home heat.  Joyce began schooling in a one room schoolhouse in her youngest years going on to graduate from North St. Paul High in 1950. She was president of the Future Homemakers of America ("Live Wire"), Editor of the Northern Highlights School Paper and active in Y-teens. Joyce participated in the Senior class play along with working at the Polar Ice Cream Parlor (and Mac's Diner) in North St. Paul.  Her first job out of high school was as a receptionist at the St. Paul Federal Savings and Loan.  Later Joyce was set to go to St. Catherine's College for Nursing when she had an emergency appendectomy. That plan was scratched and instead she traveled a bit returning home by Christmas and going to work as a secretary, nurse, and receptionist for the county coroner, Dr. Henderson.

Joyce met her future husband Edward Guy Schaumburg over a Coca-Cola at the Polar Ice Cream Parlor. They were married on August 2, 1952. Ed always lovingly referred to Joyce as "Toots". They lived in various locations in the Twin City area and lastly uprooted their family in 1971 from a home they built in Oakdale to an abandoned farm in Askov, MN. They renovated and built it up into a small Beef Ranch. They added horses, rabbits, pigs, and a few chickens to the mix. Joyce learned to can, butcher, and run a ranch while Ed commuted for 12 years.  They later retired from farming together to travel.

Joyce enjoyed bowling leagues for 35 plus years in both North St. Paul and Sandstone, MN where her daughters joined her along with dear friends. She loved dancing, bird watching, gardening, crocheting, bible study and good times with family and friends. Joyce was a strong supporter of the Viking Football team every Sunday. Joyce loved to gift crocheted items to everyone.

After moving to Askov, Joyce was president of the Askov Garden Club, Treasurer of North Star Homemakers, Secretary of the Askov Fair Board, Secretary of the Veterans Council for Pine County and a member of the North Pine Snowmobile Club. Joyce was also secretary of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Women for many years. She attended Askov Women's Club meetings and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.  Joyce was involved in her church at a young age. Along with her husband Ed, she kept full family involvement on a spiritual basis wherever they moved. Mom was heavily involved in Bible Study especially in Askov.  Joyce wrote a book named JOY that helped bring to life her story.

After moving North, she also worked multiple seasons of tree planting under General Andrews Nursery and worked in the greenhouse at Lena's. Joyce touched many lives in her lifetime.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and parents, Clarence and Clara.
