Obituary

Keith Gustaf Cannon, 74, of Barnum, passed away Oct. 24, 2024 in the home that he loved on Big Hanging Horn Lake, surrounded by his wife and daughters.

He was born on April 27, 1950 to Victor G. and Helen L. (Erickson) Cannon.

Keith graduated from Denfeld High School in 1968. He married his high school sweetheart, Polly Ann Magnuson, at Elim Lutheran Church in Duluth on Aug. 28, 1971.

Keith attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for four years.  He was then drafted but chose to enlist in the Army and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado for three years.  When he returned to Duluth, he attended Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute and received a degree in marketing and management.

He began his career at Diamond Tool & Horseshoe Company, where he was customer service supervisor. After Diamond Tool closed, he worked in various sales and marketing positions for the Weller Company, Tackle Marketing Inc. and Am Sam. He retired in 2015 and moved with Polly from Duluth to their home on the lake and enjoyed spending time in the winter in Sarasota, Florida.

Keith was on the advisory board of Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute, Duluth Boys and Girls Club, and served as treasurer and vice president of the Western Duluth Kiwanis Club.

He enjoyed sharing his love of the lake with family and friends.  He spent countless hours pulling kids skiing and tubing and was always up for a pontoon ride around the lake. He loved coaching and attending Jill, Janelle and Gus's sporting events and activities. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, waterskiing, downhill skiing, fastpitch softball, basketball and travel, taking his family on many trips. Keith's legacy is one of kindness, patience and love of family and friends.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister: Virginia, nephew: Darin Cannon and sister-in-law: Cheryl Cannon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Polly; daughters: Jill (Ryan) Gustafson, Janelle (Brian) Hennen and grandson: Gus of Sturgeon Lake; siblings: Vic Cannon, Tom (Mary) Cannon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his grand dog: Emma.

Special thanks to the Essentia Cardiology Department and the Essentia Hospice Team for taking care of Keith and making it possible for him to spend his final days at home.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 at Hope Lutheran Church, 204 Elm Ave. in Moose Lake. Lunch will follow the memorial service in the church social hall.
