Obituary

Kelly Toivo Maki, 72, lifelong resident of Moose Lake, MN died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Essentia Health, Moose Lake. He was born in Moose Lake on September 7, 1949 to Jacob "Jack" and Burnis (Fetters) Maki.

Kelly grew up in a large family on Mud Creek Road and graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1968. Kelly married Joan Bean in 1973 and moved to Dallas County, Texas where he worked at the United States Postal Service. Their daughter, Jennifer Maki, was born on March 7, 1975.
She currently resides in Dubuque, Iowa. Kelly later moved back to Moose Lake area and one of his favorite jobs in recent years was at the Moose Lake Recycling Center. Kelly was a happy, go-lucky person who truly loved his hometown and did many favors for friends. Kelly loved baseball and
basketball in his younger years, playing and teaching siblings and neighborhood kids. Kelly spent a lot of time in the woods and hunted deer for many years, and more recently spent a lot of time at the local fishing pier taking in sunrises, cheering for fishermen, watching people, and enjoying the calm of the lake, reflection of the lights. Kelly always wore a big smile and had a gift for joking around town. Kelly grew to love pink clothing in memory of sister Ramona "Kathy ", who died of cancer and sister DeAnna, a cancer survivor. Kelly will be greatly missed.

Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Burnis (Fetters) Maki; brother, Tony Maki; and sister, Ramona Maki. Kelly is survived by his daughter Jennifer Maki; brothers Scott A. Maki (Mary) of Gladstone, MI; and V. Edward Maki (Becky) of Sandstone, MN; and sisters DeAnna
Finifrock (Roger) of Barnum, MN; Sherry Nelson (Tom) of Anchorage, AK; and Paula "Bano" of Bentonville, VA.


A Celebration of Kelly's Life will be held on May 20, 2022 at the Oak Lake Lutheran Church, 53131 Shadow Oak Rd, Kerrick, MN. There will be a gathering of friends and family at 1:00 pm, and a service at 2:00 pm, with food and refreshments following. Nate Anderson will be officiating.
