Kenneth "Doc" Norman Nelson, 66, of Sturgeon Lake, died peacefully, Thursday, November 4, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth with his family by his side. He was born August 1, 1944 in Moose Lake to Richard and Esther (Ohlin) Nelson. Kenneth was united in marriage to Karen Brabec on August 20, 1966 in Birch Creek Township. Together they made their home in the Moose Lake area where Ken had his own auto body shop for many years until COPD took over his life.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Karen of Sturgeon Lake; son, Tim (Abbey) Nelson of Sturgeon Lake; daughter, Melissa Nelson of Moose Lake; grandchildren, Stephanie Keinanen, Evan, Ayden, Nolan, Sophie and Greyson Nelson. They will remember grandpa's lawn mower rides. His grandchildren were truly the light of his life. Also survived by sisters, Janice Carlson of Duluth, Joyce Newbloom of Moose Lake and Judy (Tom) Skelton of Moose Lake; brothers, Lee (Ann) Nelson of Sturgeon Lake and Roger Nelson of Moose Lake; mother and father-in-law, Marian and Gene Gerard of Moose Lake; many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by all. Special thanks to the surgical intensive care unit at St. Mary's Medical Center where Ken spent the last three weeks of his life.

Visitation was on Monday, November 8, from Noon until the 1 PM service in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Interment was in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Township.
