Kenneth Francis Virnig, 78, resident of Hinckley, MN, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 30 ^th , 2021 in Essentia Health – Sandstone. He was born in Minneapolis on June 13 ^th , 1943 to Leopold and Margaret (Newman) Virnig.

Ken grew up in the Twin Cities and graduated from Central High School in 1961. He enlisted in the military shortly after, serving with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On September 16 ^th , 1972, Ken married his one true love, Lorraine Worum, in Hope Lutheran Church of Moose Lake. He was an accountant for the Federal Prison in Sandstone. His career lasted 24 years as he retired in 1993. Ken enjoyed four-wheeling with family, spending time at the cabin, and golfed nearly every day.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, in 2017; parents, Leopold and Margaret; sisters, Mary Crane and Muriel Meade; and brother, Dale Virnig.

He will be missed deeply by his son, Brian; sister-in-law, Nancy Virnig; brother-in-law, Vern Crane; dear nieces and nephews, Jody Virnig, Chris Virnig, Debra Crane, Dianne Crane, Tim Crane, Maggie Meade-Sheldon, Lester Rowe, David Rowe, and Myles Rowe; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 15 ^th , 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00pm in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
