Larry Floyd Dagel, 77, Sturgeon Lake, died Friday, December 29, 2023 in Essentia Health Moose Lake.  Although he struggled with heart disease, cancer, circulation problems, and several surgeries, Larry continued to be upbeat right to the end.  He was born at home in Lake Park, Iowa on May 7, 1946, the third of five children to Floyd and Fern Dagel.  Larry attended school in Bell Gardens, CA, Harris-Lake Park School in Lake Park, IA, and Willow River High School.  He married Ruby Olsen in October 1963 and to this union two children were born: Shannon and Bryan.  He worked at the Simpson Farm in Barnum.  In 1964, they moved to Floodwood where Larry worked at a APCO (Charles Young) Truck Stop until 1975 when they moved back to Sturgeon Lake.  Larry helped at the Sturgeon Lake Feed Mill and later purchased the feed mill from his Dad, Floyd.  Larry also raised the best sweet corn and potatoes for his customers.  He sold the feed mill in the late 90's and started developing his property along with Harold Johnson.  He started moving houses on the property he and Harold had and began selling them.  They also opened a sand pit and sold sand to local contractors and the sand was used to build the Sturgeon Lake sewer ponds.  In 1999, Larry married Renee Fuglestad and they continued to live in Sturgeon Lake.  In the winters, Larry loved to watch the wild turkeys come and he would feed them corn.  As he slowed down, feeding the turkeys became Renee's job.  In his younger years, Larry had an eventful life and was very competitive in racing stock cars, snowmobiles, and trap shooting.  As he aged, he began to slow down and transitioned into hunting and fishing.  If he came up with an idea in life, whether it was for work or fun, he did it and excelled at it!

Larry is preceded in death by his parents: Floyd and Fern and a sister: Barb Patten.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Renee; two sons: Shannon (Pam) Dagel and Bryan (Shelly) Dagel; grandchildren: Lily, Kate, Daniel, Lindsy, Andrew, and James; step-children: Jackie (Brad) Koivisto and Jamie (Tammy) Fuglestad; sister: Marilyn Criley; brothers: David (Virginia) Dagel and Daniel (Karen) Dagel; brothers-in-law: Roger (Kelly) Johnson and Dennis Johnson; sister-in-law: Debra Malais; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from Noon until the 2 pm service on Saturday, January 6, 2024 in Faith Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Lake.  Burial will be in Blomskog Cemetery, Windemere Twp.  Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
