Leander G. Hattenberger
Leander G. Hattenberger, 89, Split Rock Township, Carlton County entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. He was born on September 11, 1925 in Cloquet to Leander and Victoria Hattenberger. Lee lived in Cloquet for two years and then moved with his family to Split Rock Township where he grew up and attended Johnson School. He later attended Moose Lake High School. Lee worked in the woods and in 1947 began working at Carlton County Co-op Power Association as a linesman and later as a construction foreman until 1962. In 1960, Lee purchased his farm in Split Rock Township where he farmed through the years and also logged and operated a sawmill. He was on the REA Board for 34 years and also served on the Split Rock Twp. Board and Kettle River Co-op Store Board. Lee was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Star Club, and served as caretaker of St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. He loved hunting and telling stories.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Albena in 2012; Daughter: Ellen Davis; and 2 brothers: Adrian Hattenberger and Vernon Hattenberger.
Lee will be lovingly remembered by his 7 children: Ed (Mary) of Hinckley; Joe (Brenda) of Hinckley; Bob of Kettle River; Jim (Betsy) of Kettle River; John of Carlton; Mike (Jane) of Minneapolis; and Greg (Becky) of Kettle River; 20 Grandchildren; 24 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; 2 sisters: Delores Filipiak of Moose Lake and Anastasia Filipiak of Minneapolis; brother: Valentine Hattenberger of Kettle River; son-in-law: Dan Davis of Mahtowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial Visitation will be from 6-8 Monday, January 12, 2015 with a Rosary service at 7:30 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in St. Joseph's Catholic Chapel, Split Rock Township with a Memorial Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Spring inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Split Rock Twp.
