LeRoy Hellerstedt
LeRoy Hellerstedt, 85, Moose Lake passed away April 3, 2009 at Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake.
He was born on January 29, 1924 to Oscar and Ida (Gustafson Lidberg) Hellerstedt in Kettle River where he was raised. At the age of 17, LeRoy joined the Merchant Marines, serving overseas during WWII. On July 6, 1946, he married Ebba Hoglund. They lived most of their life in Moose Lake where they raised six children. LeRoy was employed by the Conwed Corporation for 37 years retiring in 1986. He was well-known in the community as a good and kind man, strong in his Christian faith and devoted to his family.
LeRoy was the last survivor from a family of 14 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 siblings.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Ebba; one son: Howard (Barbara) Hellerstedt of Newport News, VA; five daughters: Ann (Darrell) Kopplin of Nisswa; Mary (Mauri Booton) Hellerstedt of Des Moines; Carol (Bill) Kiehl of White Bear Lake; Lois Hellerstedt of Moose Lake; and Amy (Gary) Nesgoda of Duluth; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11 AM in Barnum Community United Methodist Church. Pastor Lee Kantonen was the officiate. Casket Bearers were Mark Hellerstedt, Ryan Hellerstedt, Jeffrey Hellerstedt, Jonathan Kopplin, Joel Kopplin, Chad Kiehl, Andrea Kiehl, Tyler Kiehl, and Michael Murray. Burial was held in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
