Lillian Miller Distad, 82, of Moose Lake, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born June 3, 1929 in Marmarth, North Dakota. Lillian moved to Byron in October of 1932 along with her foster parents, Nels and Jennie Leqve and brother, John J. Miller. Lillian attended a one room county school in District #70 in rural Byron and also attended Byron High School. On January 12, 1947, Lillian married Dick (Clayton) Distad. In 1949, she began working at the Rochester State Hospital. She received her L.P.N. certification in 1972. When the Rochester State Hospital closed in 1981, she transferred to the Moose Lake State Hospital until retiring in 1984. Loving the Moose Lake area, Lil and Dick remained post retirement enjoying fishing, dog sitting, wood crafts and gardening. Lillian was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and both Byron and Moose Lake Auxiliary.
Lillian was preceded in death by her foster parents, Nels and Jennie Leqve; husband, Dick Distad; 2 brothers, John and Delbert Miller; 2 sisters, Laura Casllas and Doris Anderson.
Lillian will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews; many grand nieces and nephews; her special extended family, Darryl Davis and Bruce Bock of Sturgeon Lake; Darryl's son, Andrew (Kristin) Davis and their sons, Kashtin and Kadin; Mark Johnson of Grand Rapids and Priscilla and Roger Koenig and family of St. Charles; Lil was a godmother to seven godchildren and had numerous dear friends that will miss her.
A gathering of family and friends was on Thursday, April 12, from Noon until the 1 PM Memorial Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis at a later date. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Hope Lutheran Church, Pancreatic Cancer Research and Alzheimer's Society.
