Lillian Nordlund

Lillian Nordlund, 90, Kettle River, died peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2012 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born on August 16, 1921 in Split Rock Township, Carlton County to John and Mary Hendrickson. Lillian graduated from Moose Lake High School. After graduating, Lillian cared for her mother and also worked at the Kettle River Co-op Store. On April 26, 1947, Lillian married Oiva Nordlund in Duluth. They lived in Superior, WI and later moved to a farm in Kalevala Township. Lillian loved to care for her animals, pick and harvest many different kinds of berries, and also garden. She was also a homemaker through the years. In 2008, Lillian moved to the Lighthouse in Barnum where she lived contently with the wonderful residents and staff that cared for her for over 4 years.

She had a deep love for her family and was very interested and proud of her Finnish Heritage. Lillian loved to read the newspaper daily and keep up with the current events. She was a member of the Kettle River Apostolic Lutheran Church, Kettle River American Legion Auxiliary, and also volunteered for the American Heart Association.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Oiva; 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Susan (Dan) Halsey of Mora; Andrea (Steve) Newgren of Kasilof, AK; and Vernon (Mary) Nordlund of Kettle River; 5 Grandchildren: Maritta Newgren; Chris Newgren; Leah Martin; Erik Halsey; and Karin Lupo; 4 great grandchildren: Alena, Jacob, Finn, and Elin; a step grandchild: Luke Milczark; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Bentti and Evelyn Nordlund of Moose Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday, April 6, 2012 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Pastor Donald Bisila did officiate. Music was provided by Hal and Jean Kamppi. Burial was in West Branch Cemetery, Kalevala Twp., Carlton County.
