Lillie S. Laine

Lillie S. Laine, 87, Automba Twp., died peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born on October 31, 1924 in Moose Lake to Charles and Rebecca Palola. Lillie attended school in Kalevala Township and later graduated from Cromwell High School. She worked in a California factory assembling efforts for the WWII. Lillie later moved back to Minnesota and on July 6, 1946 she married Emil H. Laine, Sr. in Moose Lake. They lived in Two Harbors for a short time and later moved to Automba where they farmed and Lillie was a homemaker through the years. Lillie loved dogs, crocheting, needlepoint, crafting, and making Christmas ornaments. She also loved organizing family history through writings and photos.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: George Palola and Carl Palola; and one sister: Irene Juola.

Lillie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Emil Laine, Sr.; three children: Emil, Jr. (Linda) Laine of Kettle River; Nancy (Ken) Johnson of Kettle River; and Betty Piippo and her friend (Chip Paul) of Grand Rapids; five Grandchildren: Jeff (Diana) Laine; Jenny (Kurt) Schatz; Jeremy (Kate) Laine; Kenny (Chris) Johnson; and Cory Johnson; 11 Great Grandchildren; sister-in-law: Inga Palola of Two Harbors; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family services were held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake with Pastor Hal Kamppi officiating. Casket Bearers were Jeff Laine, Jeremy Laine, Kurt Schatz, Kenny Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Jacob Matuseski. Burial was held in West Branch Cemetery, Kalevala Twp.
