Lloyd A. Layon, 91, Kettle River, died Monday, September 2, 2024 in New Perspective Assisted Living, Cloquet.  He was born on July 13, 1933 in Moose Lake to Elmer and Amelia (Sippola) Layon.  Lloyd grew up in Silver Twp. and attended school in Kettle River and later Moose Lake where he graduated in 1951.  He attended Hibbing State Jr. College and received his Associate Degree in Nursing.  In 1953, Lloyd began proudly serving in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman until 1955.  On April 4, 1959, Lloyd married Joyce Suominen in Minneapolis.  They farmed in Kettle River and Lloyd worked for many years as a manager at the Moose Lake State Hospital until his retirement.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was confirmed in 1948, Kettle River American Legion, and the MMA Union.  Lloyd enjoyed being in the woods, cutting wood, hunting, sitting under his shade tree, a good and interesting conversation, and a refreshing sauna followed by Barefoot Becky on the RFD channel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2023; two sisters and brother-in-law: Joyce Johnson and Elaine and Norman Nikkola; and one brother: Roger Layon.

Lloyd will be lovingly remembered by his two children: Gene (Kathy) Layon and Sandy (Randy) Gram; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Sharon Layon; brother-in-law: Walter Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 pm service on Friday, September 6, 2024 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kettle River.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
