Louise Swanson
Louise Swanson, 93, Barnum, died peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Lighthouse in Barnum. She was born on October 7, 1921 in Webster City, Iowa to Bruce and Esther Hammitt. Louise moved to Wrenshall with her family where she grew up and attended school. She worked at Hart's Coffee Shop in Moose Lake. On May 10, 1940, Louise married Erland "Cap" Swanson in Carlton. They lived in Barnum Township where they farmed through the years. Louise also worked as a cook and waitress at Chef's in Moose Lake, Oasis in Carlton, Carroll Inn in Moose Lake and Rudy's Diner in Cloquet. She was a long time member of Elim Lutheran Church in Blackhoof Twp. and also attended Barnum Community United Methodist Church. Louise loved to crochet and make doilies and she was an excellent cook. She also loved spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank Lighthouse of Barnum and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
Louise is preceded in death by her husband, Erland "Cap" Swanson in 1998; two daughters: Sandra Swanson and Kathy Brown; a grandson: Keegan Brown; and a sister: Elizabeth Collver.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Larry of Barnum; Cliff (Renee) of Barnum; a daughter: Sherry (Glenn) Johnston of Excelsior; son-in-law: Jim Brown of Kerrick; two sisters: Marian (Wally) Meier and Fae Peltier both of White Bear Lake; 11 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11 AM service on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Barnum Community United Methodist Church. Pastor Kendall Carlson will officiate. Tom Cawcutt will provide the music. Lunch will follow the services with burial at 2 PM in Sandy Lake Cemetery, Blackhoof Twp.
