Lucy Ann Kostecky

Lucy Ann Kostecky, 99, Sturgeon Lake, died peacefully on Thursday, December 08, 2011 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake just two days before her 100th birthday. She was born on December 10, 1911 in Hopkins, MN to Vaclav "James" and Mary Vraspir. Lucy attended and graduated from Hopkins High School. On June 27, 1934, Lucy married Joseph M. Kostecky in St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN. They moved to Willow River in 1946 and later to Sturgeon Lake in 1949. Lucy was a homemaker through the years. She was a very active member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church and its Parish Council, Sacred Heart Society, and CCW. Lucy later transferred to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willow River and was active in their CCW. She was also a 50 year member of the WFLA Lodge #346 Willow River. Lucy enjoyed embroidery, sewing, gardening, and making Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1993; a son: David 1973; brother: James Teply; three sisters: Rose Hughes, Mary Chrones, and Stella Vraspir; and a Great Granddaughter: Kaylee Kelsey.

Lucy will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Barbara Alm of Sandstone; Phyllis Pierce of Coon Rapids; Daniel (Reta) Kostecky of Conway, AR; and Gretchen (Thomas) Morris of South St. Paul; 14 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandson; a Great Great Grandaughter that is expected in March; and a sister: Violette Vraspir of Hopkins.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. Visitation was held in St. Mary's Center one hour prior to Mass. Father Sunny Thomas was the celebrant. Joy Novak provided the music. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Willow River.
