Marie Elizabeth Minkkinen, 77, of Kettle River, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Augustana Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born August 9, 1933 in Beaver Township to John and Rose (Timonen) Kangas. Marie graduated from McGregor High School when she was 16. Marie was united in marriage to George Raymond Minkkinen on July 1, 1950 in Beaver Township. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening. Marie was very dedicated to her husband and her family.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; sister, Lydia; 2 brothers, Ernest and Ralph.

Marie is survived by 4 sons, Terry "George" (Mary) of Perrysburg, OH, Philip of Two Harbors, John (Caroline) of Kettle River and Tim of Charlotte, NC; 1 daughter, Karen (Dave) Wolterstorff of Woodbury; 10 grandchildren, Christine Minkkinen, Kara Boos, Laura Jordan, Erin Ecker, Michael Wolterstorff, Brent Minkkinen, Kylee Larson, Mia Minkkinen, Melissa Minkkinen and Robert Minkkinen; 4 great grandchildren, Jonathan Ecker, David Ecker, Emily Ecker and Jonathan Boos; 1 sister, Ilene Kachinske of Roswell; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was on Tuesday, July 19, from 10 AM until the 11 AM service in Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hwy 27, Beaver Township, Aitkin County.
