Marlen R. Anderson

Marlen R. Anderson, 71, Sturgeon Lake, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at home with his family by his side. He was born on July 20, 1943 in Moose Lake to Gustaf and Esther (Nelson) Anderson. Marlen grew up in Windemere Township where he attended C School and Moose Lake High School graduating in 1961. On June 8, 1963, Marlen married Annette Swanson in Sturgeon Lake. Through the years, Marlen worked at Moose Lake Coop, Western Auto and Roos Motors where he was Service and Parts Manager for 31 years. For the past 9 years Marlen truly loved his job with DNR Parks, and retired from this job in December 2014. Marlen served on the Lake State Credit Union Board of Directors for 38 years. He was an umpire for baseball/softball and a referee for hockey. He had an incredible passion for music and sang in church, for the Autumn Voices and for many funerals and weddings. Marlen bowled for over 50 years for State Farm Bowling Team and was secretary for bowling leagues for many years. He was a very active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Moose Lake where he was involved with the Covenant Movers and also the Sonshine Furniture. Marlen loved hunting, fishing, and visiting with people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Harold and Ruth Swanson, brother-in-law, Terry Jones and his dog and best friend, King.

Marlen will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years: Annette; five children: Virginia "Ginger" (Chris) Galewski of Galesville, WI; Wanda (Jeff) Borchardt of St. Cloud; Amy (Burt Anderson) Anderson of Sturgeon Lake; Melanie Johnson of Andover; Marlen (Kim) Anderson II of Saginaw; eleven grandchildren: Chris (Nicole Swanson) Galewski, Jr; Steven Galewski, Heather (Stephen) Thyen, Jennifer (Alex) Statz, Travis (Samantha Smith) Borchardt, Nick Kenemore, Cassie Kenemore, Alex Kenemore, Paige Johnson, Gannon Johnson, and Skylar Johnson and one great-grandchild: Emma Thyen. Two brothers: Duane (Arlene) Anderson of Sturgeon Lake and Clinton (Ella) Anderson of Farmington; two sisters: Sharon Jones of Scanlon and Nancy (Art) Santti of Cloquet; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday, January 30, 2015 in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake and continue from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Saturday, January 31, 2015 in Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Todd Van Zee will officiate. Burial will be in Blomskog Cemetery, Windermere Township.
