Martha Clara "Mardy" Youngberg, 85, of Willow River, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 in Augustana Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born October 24, 1930 in Ford Township near Mora to William and Martha (Schoenrock) Kump. Mardy lived on the farm until she moved to Giese at age 8 where she attended school. Mardy was united in marriage to Orville Youngberg on December 28, 1946 in St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul for 2 years before moving to Bremen Township where they farmed until 1967. Mardy and Orville then moved to Willow River. Mardy worked at the Moose Lake State Hospital from 1962 until she retired in 1994. Mardy was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Mardy enjoyed baking cakes and was known for her wedding cakes, graduation cakes, anniversary cakes and birthday cakes, nicely decorated and always delicious. Mardy baked hundreds of cakes, baking over 35 one weekend for graduation parties. Mardy also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also made quilts for her grandchildren. Mardy especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mardy is preceded in death by her husband, Orville; son, Randal; sister, Viola Hanson; 3 brothers, Victor Krueger, Woodrow Krueger and William Kump.
Mardy is survived by 2 sons, Roger (Beatrice) Youngberg of Willow River and Bryan Youngberg of Willow River; 4 grandchildren, Richard (Jessica) Youngberg, Sharon (Chris) Fish, Roxanne (Guy) Thayer and Michele (Steve) Smekofske; 8 great grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Fish, Nathan and Nicole Thayer, Mariah and Kyle Youngberg and Aaron and Kelsey Smekofske; 4 sisters-in-law, Dixie Krueger, Roz Kump, Irene Olson and Gertrude Novak; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 25, from 5-7 P.M. in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and will continue Friday, February 26, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake.
