Martha A. Wallace
Martha A. Wallace, 94, Woodbury, formerly of Sturgeon Lake, died Saturday, October 13, 2012 in Colby Lake Care Home, Woodbury.
She was born on July 7, 1918 in Split Rock Twp. to Tony and Eleanor Gresczyk. Martha grew up in Split Rock Twp. and was a Survivor of the 1918 Moose Lake Fire. She attended Johnson School in Split Rock Township where she remained after school to help on the family farm. On August 30, 1940, Martha married Daniel Chutich. Daniel was killed in World War II and buried in St. James Cemetery in France. She lived in Calumet and later in the Twin Cities where she worked at the Twin City Arsenal and later 3-M. On October 2, 1948, Martha married Charles A. Wallace in Pine City. In 1950, Martha left 3-M and began to raise her family. She later worked at Shopper's City for over 14 years. In 1980, Charles and Martha moved to Island Lake where they enjoyed their retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willow River. Martha later moved to Woodbury.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel in 1944; her second husband: Charles in 2002; sisters: Veronica Taylor, Barbara Gresczyk, Mary Ann Gresczyk, and Irene Balut; and a brother: Tony Gresczyk, Jr.
Martha will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Dennis "Butch" Wallace of Sturgeon Lake and Mark (Kathy) Wallace of Woodbury; two grandchildren: Brian Wallace and Elizabeth Wallace both of Woodbury; a sister: Gertie Maniak of Kettle River; a brother: Clem Gresczyk of Grand Marias; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM Saturday, October 20, 2012 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass in St. Mary's Center, Willow River. Father Sunny Thomas, M.C.B.S. will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred.
