Martin Michalski

Martin Michalski, 76, Split Rock Twp., died Friday, August 17, 2012 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. He was born on December 17, 1935 to Zigmond and Christine Michalski in Split Rock Twp. where he grew up. Martin worked at logging camps in Northern Minnesota and later at Wood Conversion/Conwed in Cloquet. In 1958, Martin joined the Army where he served in Germany during the same time Elvis did and talked about having coffee with Elvis. After his two year enlistment, Martin served in the Army Reserves for four years. On February 4, 1961, Martin married Beverly Mach in Willow River. Martin continued working at Conwed and farmed through the years while living in Split Rock Twp. In 1989, Martin began working at Moose Lake State Park until 2007. Martin loved listening to polka music, attending auctions, and enjoyed talking Polish. He was a member of the Kettle River American Legion Post #360.

Martin was preceded in death by his son: Joe in 1987; brother: Leonard; and three sisters: Gertie, Mary, Genevieve.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Beverly; seven children: Jean (Dan) Gildea of Glencoe; Judy (Mark) Wright of Ekalaka, MT; Joyce (Corey) Hibke of Moose Lake; Janelle (Jim) Schneider of Andover; Jim (Barb) Michalski of Moose Lake; Joanne Christenson of Moose Lake; Jackie (Shawn) Aho of Moose Lake; 19 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren with one on the way; two brothers: Alex (Christine) Michalski of Sturgeon Lake and Pete (Linda) Michalski of Ishpeming, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, August 20, 2012 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 1:00 until the 2:00 PM service in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Split Rock Twp.
