Obituary

Marvin Herman Bartz, 90, Barnum, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He was born on June 4, 1936 in Readlyn, Iowa to Herman and Edna Bartz. Marvin moved east of Barnum at an early age with his family where he attended Central School. He later attended Barnum High School, graduating in 1956. Marvin served in the National Guard for 6 years and attained the rank of Sgt. He began working at Conwed where worked in maintenance as a janitor and was well known for his nickname at work, "Gravy." Marvin participated in bowling league in Cloquet and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton where he served many years as treasurer for their Legion of Mary. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, canoe, trap, and travel out west for many hunting trips with friends. Marvin had a deep love his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Edna Bartz; son: Alan Bartz; brother: Stephen Bartz; and grandson: Kyle Bartz.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen; his brothers Norm (late wife, Pat), and Dale (Renee); two children: Roxanne (Mike) Henninger and Jeff (Becky) Bartz; four step children: Michelle (Steve) Olah; Ed (Alethea) Montgomery; Katie Dagger; Jason (Jennifer) Montgomery; grandchildren: Misty (Jesse) Hagglund, Trevor (Ashley), Spencer (Samantha) Bartz, Kris Bartz, Kylie (Robert) Hare, and Gabriel Olah, Moriah, Tanner, Cade, Conner, Kaleb and Brayden Montgomery; and Great Grandkids: Miles and Layne Hagglund, Kaydence Dyson, Issac and Elijah Bartz, Nixon and Mina Bartz, and Lochlan, Milo, Phinease, and Daphne Montogomery, and as well as many friends and extended family.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Mass at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake on Friday, September 11, 2026. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Barnum following Mass. Luncheon provided after at the church.
