Mary E. Granda
Mary E. Granda, 79, Barnum, died peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at her home. She was born on October 2, 1933 in Split Rock Township to Felix and Helen Shusta. Mary grew up in Split Rock Township and attended Moose Lake High School graduating in 1951. After high school, Mary worked in Duluth. On October 2, 1954, she married Edmund Granda in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Split Rock Twp. They lived in Duluth until 1958 when they moved to Moose Lake and owned and operated the Gold Star Bar until 1963. They later moved to Barnum where Mary did daycare in her home for many years. Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and canning. She loved entertaining company and visiting with family and friends. Mary was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund in 2005; son: Jerome; her parents: Felix and Helen Shusta; sister: Caroline Filipiak Carlson; and 2 brothers: Anthony Shusta and Joseph Shusta.
She will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Bob (Sharon) Granda of Minneapolis; Jim (Gina) Granda of Brooklyn Center; Edward (Lisa) Granda of Barnum; Steve "Crusher" Granda of Barnum; and Nancy Granda of Barnum; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; her siblings: Frank (Shirley) Shusta of Ely; Ted (Diane) Shusta of Duluth; Florence Sipsas of Duluth; and Pat (Butch) Ketchmark of Garrison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many special friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM with a Rosary Service at 8 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and continue on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Father Eamonn Boland will be the celebrant. Casket Bearers will be Edward Granda, Brady Granda, Tom Mike, Darrell Youngberg, Amy Jo Granda, and Clifford Westerberg. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
