Melvin Raymond Nummela, 83, of Kettle River, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Essentia Miller Dwan Medical Center, Duluth. He was born November 23, 1932 in Kalevala Township to Nick and Rose (Begin) Nummela. Melvin was a veteran of The United States Army who served during the Korean Conflict. Melvin was united in marriage to Barbara Bakka on January 21, 1978 in Sturgeon Lake. Melvin was a bus driver and custodian for Kalevala school and also had a milk route. He then worked at CAP for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling and spending time in the outdoors. Melvin was known for his great sense of humor.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Leonard "Lefty" Nummela and Robert "Bobby" Nummela.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Nummela of Kettle River; children, Randy (Pat) Nummela of Brook Park, Terry (Julie) Nummela of Moose Lake, Tim (Kris) Nummela of Anoka, Miya (Bobby Kohmetcher) Cluka of Kettle River, Haley (Josh) Hammitt of Moose Lake and Nick (Chelsa) Nummela of Kettle River; grandchildren, Amy, Andy, Kyle, Shawn, Tory, Destany, Trevor, Kendra, Cole, Anna, Leah, Brady, Beau, Aubrey and Kylli; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister, Kathleen Peters of Cromwell.

A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, May 19, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
