Obituary

Meryl June Almos, resident of Moose Lake, MN died peacefully on Monday, October 14 th , 2019 in Oakview Assisted Living after 90 years of living, loving, and hard work. She was born in Grand Forks, ND on June 2 nd , 1929 to Frank and Cora Juhlke.

Meryl grew up on a farm in Arvilla, ND and graduated from high school in Larimore, ND. She then obtained her RN degree from Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND. Meryl would then move to Minneapolis for a nursing rotation at the University Hospital. Her next rotation was at the Moose Lake State Hospital. While working in town, Meryl met Stanley Almos. They married on January 20 th , 1951. Meryl continued her career at the State Hospital until 1954 when their second son was born. She then became a homemaker.

Meryl was a "foodie" before the term "foodie" became popular. She and her sisters spent many years comparing and trying each other's recipes. Meryl was well known for her impeccable baking and cooking skills. A few of Meryl's hobbies included canning and freezing vegetables, picking wild blueberries, and agate hunting and picking.  Her strong Norwegian Heritage shined when it came to hardanger stitching. Meryl's creations were so beautiful that they were even sold in Ingebretsen's Nordic Marketplace catalog. She was on a women's bowling league in Moose Lake for many years, and was a member of the Moose Lake Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Pine County Homemakers. One thing was for certain, you always knew what Meryl was thinking! Her practical ways, stoic personality, and healthy sense of humor will truly be missed.

Meryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley, in 1989; her parents, Frank and Cora; brothers, Paul and Clifford Juhlke; and sister, Betty Trosen.
