Mike Anderson, 76, Sturgeon Lake, died unexpectedly at home after spending most of the day planting his flower gardens which he loved to do.  He was born on June 19, 1947 in Shelton, Washington to Joseph and Elva Anderson.  Mike grew up in Washington and in 1966 joined the Marines.  He served during Vietnam for a "three year and seven-day" enlistment.  Mike earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge.  Mike married Linda Hook and to this union Michael, Christopher, and Jason were born.  He later married Julie Wright and Jessica was born.  On November 20, 1999, Mike married Carol Selenski in Anchorage, Alaska where they lived and Elea was born.  Mike worked as a pipeline engineer in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and as a commercial fisherman.  In 2006, they moved to Sturgeon Lake and Mike continued to fly back to Alaska to work until 2011.  In 2011, Mike started volunteering at Riverside Hockey Arena in Moose Lake.  He later was hired as an assistant and then eventually managed the Hockey Arena.  Mike also worked for the City of Moose Lake during the summer as a ground's keeper.  He loved gardening, woodworking, bowling, and watching sports with Elea.  Mike was a member of the Willow River American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Elva Anderson and a grandson: Paxson Linquist.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; five children: Michael (Peggy) Anderson; Christopher (Megan) Anderson, Jason (Lauren) Anderson, Jessica (Robert) Anderson, and Elea Anderson; six grandchildren: Soren, Margaux, Angou, Piper, Cedar, and Glory; brother: Victor (Charlotte) Anderson; six nieces: Kristen, Kim, Kelly, Kerri, Monica, and Myra; honorary brother: Jim Anderson; and numerous other family members and friends.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in St. Isidore's Church Hall in Sturgeon Lake from 1 pm until the 2pm service.  A reception will follow the service and Military Honors will be performed outside the Social Hall at 3pm.
