Phillip P. Suchoski
Phillip P. Suchoski, 68, Cloquet, formerly of Moose Lake, died Friday, January 23, 2009 in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. He was born in Moose Lake and lived in Split Rock Twp. where he helped farm with his family. He attended Pinewood Learning Center in Cloquet. In 1976, Phillip moved to Pine Ridge Group Home in Cloquet where he lived until 1986 when he moved into his apartment. Phillip worked through Pinewood chore services and would often shovel snow and mow grass. He was a hard worker whom worked well with others. Phillip also excelled in Special Olympics and was an athlete in bowling, swimming, and floor hockey. He was recognized as the Minnesota Special Olympic Athlete of the Year for 1983-1984. Phillip later moved to Pine Ridge Home and later to Sunnyside Healthcare Center. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Mary Suchoski; and a brother: Peter Suchoski.
Phillip is survived by a sister: Marianne Hebel of Palos Park; a brother: James Suchoski of Two Harbors; sister-in-law: Barbara Thoennes of Wadena; nieces, nephews; his guardian: Caroline LaFrinier of Moose Lake; his advocate: Dan Anderson of Cloquet; and his many friends at Pine Ridge Group Homes, Pinewood Inc., and Sunnyside Health Care Center. The family would like to thank the Pine Ridge Group Homes, Pinewood Inc., Carlton County Human Services, and Sunnyside Health Care Center for their excellent care and friendship given through the years.
A Gathering of Family and Friends was held from 1:00 until the 2:00 PM Memorial Mass in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet on Monday, February 2, 2009. Father Brian Schultz was the celebrant. Spring Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Split Rock Twp., Carlton County. Memorials are preferred to Pinewood Special Olympics, 915 – 18th St., Cloquet, MN 55720.
