Raymond A. Broker
Raymond A. Broker, 93, Barnum, formerly of Moose Lake, died Thursday, October 9, 2008, in St Mary's Hospital, Duluth. He was born on April 6, 1915 in Moose Lake to Samuel and Agnes Booker. On January 28, 1943, Ray married Hazel Benson in St. Louis, MO. They lived in Galena, IL. In 1970, they moved to Moose Lake where they lived until moving back to Galena in 1980. Ray worked for Kraft Foods and also was a home builder. He loved to help people and was a master of all trades. In 1997, they moved back to Moose Lake. Hazel died in 2000 and Ray later moved to Parkside Apartments in Barnum. Ray enjoyed making afghans on his wooden board as his significant other, Marlene Waseen crocheted and her dog, Libby lay next to him in the chair. Ray loved to share his creations of scarves and rugs with many people through the years.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel in 2000; his parents: Samuel and Agnes Booker; a brother: Vernon; two sisters: Vivian and Emily; a son: Raymond, Jr.; and a great grandchild: Jayden.
He will be lovingly remembered by his special friend, Marlene Waseen; and three children: Joseph (Lori) Broker of Colfax, WI; Paul (Brenda Hyllested) Broker of Chippewa Falls; and Clarence (Michelle) Broker of Kettle River; several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; one brother: Duane; one sister: Myrtle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were at 11 AM on Monday, October 13, 2008 in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Todd Van Zee and Pastor David Nelson officiated.
