Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Richard Waletzko, who peacefully passed away at his home on June 27, 2026, at the age of 89, with his loving family by his side.

Ray was born to Jake and Frances Waletzko in Willow River, February 6th 1937.

On February 27, 1960, Ray married the love of his life, Esther Tietz, in Willow River, Minnesota. Together they built a beautiful marriage spanning more than 66 years, founded on love, faith, and unwavering devotion to one another.

They were blessed with four children—Steven, Terry, Susan, and Denise—who were the center of their lives. Ray and Esther made their homestead in Barnum, Minnesota, where they raised their family, and created a lifetime of cherished memories. Whether spending time with family, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying the comforts of home, Ray took great pride in the life they built together and the values they instilled in future generations.

Ray was a hardworking dairy farmer who took great pride in providing for his family through years of farming and honest labor. In addition to farming, he dedicated more than 40 years to Diamond Match Mill, where his strong work ethic and dependability earned the respect of those around him. He enjoyed anything with a motor, especially tractors, motorcycles, and snowmobiles, and loved spending time outdoors. Ray will be remembered for his hard work, mechanical ability, and quiet dedication to his family.

Ray enjoyed making maple syrup with his sons Steve & Terry and Grandson Tim. Ray & Esther spent 14 years wintering to Pharr, Texas. He also cherished traveling, especially the many memorable trips he took to Alaska with Esther, family, and friends, creating lifelong memories and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors together.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Esther Waletzko; his son, Terry (Carla) Waletzko; his daughters, Susan (Scott Johnson) Waletzko and Denise Mikrot; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Waletzko; sisters, Gertrude (Bob) Lawrence, Agnes (John) Stevens, Delores (Dale) Alberg, Carol (Ken) Burggraff; and sisters-in-law, Alice Waletzko and Bonnie Waletzko.

He was a proud grandfather to Tim (Sasha) Waletzko, Brandy (Charles) Kreitz, Derek (Vanessa Riley) Sack, Sabrina (Dan) Coker, Jill (Tyler) Cohen, and Luke (Jessica) Waletzko. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Brooke, Jay, DJ, Carson, Matthew, Micah, Jacob, and Aria, who brought him immense joy.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Frances Waletzko; his sons, Steven and Joseph Waletzko; his brothers, Frank and Ernie Waletzko; his sister, Irene Marihart; and his son-in-law, Tony Mikrot.

His love, guidance, and quiet example will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate and exceptional care Ray received. Their kindness, support, and dedication brought comfort to Ray and his family during his final journey. They also wish to thank Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home for their kindness, compassion, and professional care during this difficult time. Their thoughtfulness and support will always be remembered.
