Obituary

Reider Olav Hansen, 90, Sturgeon Lake, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 10 th , 2021 in Moose Lake Village, surrounded by family. He was born in Cloquet, MN on March 19 th , 1931 to Reidar and Olga (Bakker) Hansen, graduated from Cloquet High School in 1949, attended UMD, and earned a degree in Traffic Management from Humboldt Institute of Minneapolis. Reider proudly served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force from 1951 until being honorably discharged in 1954, humbly receiving the German Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Reider was united in marriage on September 2 nd , 1967 in Minneapolis to Frances Thingvold and they enjoyed 35 happy years together.

Reider had a 31 ½ year career working for the Milwaukee and Soo Line Railraods as a sales manager. He was passionate about his work and held various marketing positions in New York City, Minneapolis, Duluth, Superior, and Iowa. Reider enjoyed volunteer and community involvement and was past President of the Duluth Superior Transportation Club, past President of Delta-Nu-Alfa Traffic Fraternity, and past Commander of Duluth-Lakeview American Legion Post #342. He held membership with Sons of Norway, Masons, Transportation Fraternity #249, Sturgeon Lake – Denham American Legion Post #361, Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd of Duluth and Oak Lake Lutheran Church of Kerrick.

Reider was an avid sports fan, loyal to the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He will always be remembered as an intelligent, kind, and generous soul with a great sense of humor. Reider was famous for remembering everyone's birthdays and would send cards every year.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Frances.

His memory will be cherished by his special friend of 17 years, Lois Duffy of Moose Lake, MN and her family; daughter, Harmony (Curtis) Rode of LaMoure, ND; son, Bryan Hansen (Janelle Lancette) of Hermantown, MN; grandchildren, Nicole Phipps-Hansen, Austin Hansen, Kayla Hansen, Calen Rode, Ashlyn Rode, Preston Hansen, Peyton Hansen, and Mila Hansen; and beloved pug, Ikee.

A memorial graveside service will be held at a future date.
