Richard E.
Ramey
July 5, 1935 – December 16, 2024
Richard E Ramey joined his beloved wife in heaven Dec 16, 2024 after a battle with lymphoma. His family would like to thank the staff of Golden Horizons of Sandstone, MN and Ecumen Hospice for taking such good care of him in the last months of his life. Richard was born July 5, 1935 to Raymond and Mollie Ramey and spent his childhood on his parent's farm near Hill City, MN. Rick graduated from Hill City High School and was married to Barbara Thompson on Nov 16, 1957. The couple lived in San Diego, CA for a few years while he was in the Navy, before moving to Crookston, MN, where they would spend the next 39 years. The marriage was blessed with four children Kevin, Kim, Darin and Lesly. Rick was the editor of the Crookston Times and later graduated from both the University of MN Crookston and University of North Dakota. While attending school he would work for Sunnyrest and after, for the Mental Health Center in Crookston. He would finish his work life as Polk County's Veteran Service Officer aiding veteran's and their families with the complex world of veteran's benefits. In retirement, Rick and Barb moved to Moose Lake, MN. Together with Barb, they created crafts and sold them at local craft shows. In addition to their craft business, Rick would volunteer to read at the elementary school where he was known as Mr. R. He also was a volunteer driver for senior medical appointments for Carlton County as he loved to drive because of all his years on the road from his previous work. Perhaps Rick was best known as the "Butterfly Guy" in retirement. He raised monarch butterflies and would make presentations to students of the area and surrounding communities. It was not uncommon for children and young teens to greet him when they saw him in the community because of his volunteer work. Left to mourn his loss are their children, Kevin(Mary) Ramey of Maple Grove, MN, Kim Lee Haft(Richard) of Manhattan Beach, CA, Darin(Caroline) Ramey of Moorhead, MN, Lesly Ramey(Ervin Loehlein) of Moose Lake, MN. A sister Rae A. Kedrowski of Cambridge, MN, brother-in-law Gary Thompson of Mc Gregor, MN, and sister-in-law Conne Johnson of Rockford, MN. Grandchildren include Thomas(Wendy) Ramey of Aurora, CO, Katherine Ramey of Crystal, MN, Kayla(Nathan)Knudsen of Harris, MN, Kara (Kody) Strum of Moorhead, MN. Lindsay Loehlein of Cloquet, MN. Great Grandchildren include Amelia, Indie and Addie Ramey of Aurora, CO and Greta and Sloane Knudsen of Harris, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents, and three siblings Ramona Thompson, Roland Ramey, and Raymond Ramey
A family grave site service is planned for a later date. Arrangements are provided by Hamlin Hansen Kosloski Funeral Home of Moose Lake, MN. May God bless the memory of Richard Ramey.
